Jan Dara

The story is about the boy named Jan. His mother died when she gave birth to him, and that’s the reason why his father does not treat him as his child. He’s always being punished and blamed by Khun Luang (his father) for being the reason why his wife died. Since then, Jan was also called a ‘bastard’. The cousin of his mother, Waad, made him feel the love of a mother. She is the one Jan run to whenever Khun Luang hurts him. Years passed, his father and Aunt Waad had a baby, which was named KhunKeow. His sister was very spoiled by his father, that is why Khun Keow also hates him. Jan just continued his life without being affected by the discrimination inside their house. Jan met Hyacinth, his true love. They had been on, but nothing intimate happened to them because Jan respects Hyacinth. Jan was accused of trying to molest Khun Keow, so Khun Luang and he had a confrontation which led to Khun Luang to ask Jan to leave the house. Jan went to his grandfather where he found out the real thing that happened to his mother. Aunt Waad told him the truth that he was not a real child of Khun Luang. His mother and Khun Luang were forced to be married because his mother got pregnant, so as to avoid embarrassment. Jan was ordered by Jhun Luang to return home immediately. He was about to marry Khun Keow, who, like his mother got pregnant. When Khun Keow gave birth, she cursed the child, and that is why her child did not grow normal. Khoon Bounleuang, the other woman of Khun Luang had also make love with Jan before, but when they were doing it again, Khun Luang caught them and that’s the reason why Khun Luang had a stroke. There had been war and all of them hide in their underground, except Khun Keow and Khoon B. Jan looked for them and found out that they were having sex. Khun Keow was a lesbian. Jan forced Khun Keow to make love with him so that he can have his own child. But Khun Keow killed the child in her tummy, she aborted it with the help of Khoon B. Things happen and things change to this different individuals. Khoon B. became closer to the lord. Aunt Waad became a nun. Khun Keow became and act a boy. Kun Luang was still in bed and the only sign that he was alive was his breathing. Jan, who already knew the truth, that a group of man raped his mother, will always remember the things that happened to him.

Jan Dara is a Thai film. An explosive one. The story is very unique. It is about the family of Jan Dara. Their pleasures and how their lives revolve around sex. Finding love because his father treat him like a bastard, Jan got involved to different characters that taught him lessons in life and satisfied the love that his finding. Incest, Passion, and love are the theme of this film. The direction of the film is circular. It is not the common type of story-telling. It is not even a usual type of circular story. Jan is the story-teller or narrator. He speaks to the viewers, telling them his sentiments, experiences and life. The characters are being introduced by showing their photo and name. Every time there is a new character that comes in Jan’s life, the characters are being introduced by this. The cinematography is also nice. Every camera angle, every lighting, every audio, fits in every scene and as well as in the theme of the story. I like the scene where Jan was walking and suddenly changes from being an adult to teenager to child and then to baby. It is very touching because it interprets the bad experiences Jan had. The lighting is also suited to the story of the film. It is not colorful, because the theme of it is not colorful or lively as well.

eagle eye: eye popping

“Eagle Eye” is a techno-thriller that looks like “Minority Report” and the Jason Bourne movies. It starts with a high-tech sequence showing hoe the military is so advance in technology that they can track down a long wanted high-ranking terrorists suspect in the Middle East while attending a funeral. The top brass, though, can’t be 100% certain if it’s really the terrorist that they’re about to pulverize and has reservations about it, but the US President himself approves of the air strike and it subsequently kills innocent lives. This shows that security systems meant to protect ordinary Americans can also be used as tools against them because of anti-US reprisals.

The film then focuses on Jerry Shaw (Shia), an underachieving copy boy for a firm called Copy Cabana who has dropped out of Stanford and has become detached from his family. His life turned upside down overnight when his twin brother, Ethan, a soldier who’s smarter and more successful than him, dies after mysteriously being hit by a bus. His bank account suddenly registers $700,000 plus and boxes containing ammunitions were sent to the room he is renting.

He then becomes an innocent pawn in a dangerous game managed on his cellphone by a woman he has never met. The woman tells him to leave his apartment pronto but he refuses to listen, thinking there must be a mistake somewhere, so he gets arrested by the FBI and grilled by an investigator, Agent Tom Morgan (Billy Bob Thornton). The woman calls him again and then gets rescued in a daring sequence that ends with him perilously landing on the tracks of an incoming subway train.

The woman then instructs him to get into a car driven by Rachel (Michelle Monaghan), a young mother whose grade school son is performing in a concert for the US president and other dignitaries in Washington D.C. Rachel is also being manipulated by the woman who threatens to kill her son if she wouldn’t cooperate. From hereon, Jerry and Rachel have no choice but to comply to whatever the woman dictates them to do to an accomplish a mission they don’t even know about, with each situation they get thrown into increasingly become more dangerous than the previous one.

The film is presented as a thriller with political overtones and also a sci-fi story about advanced technology that goes haywire. The movie is dotted with various scenes showing dozens of cars being blown up or wrecked in spectacular crashes with eye-popping special effects. Well, this should not be surprising as this is a mega-budgeted flick produced by Steven Spielberg no less. In all fairness to Shia, Michelle and the rest of the cast, they are all pretty convincing in portraying their respective roles, but its movie’s script makes it more involving.

one college life

Being a college student is a sure hard one. You need to submit the needed requirements on time, review for the midterms and finals, accomplish different tasks given by the professors and many other toxic activities. But on the state of our country today, a degree is needed for you to have a job. Having a college diploma is an advantage. It can be your passport to success.

Last week, I had the chance to interview a broadcast communication student, Ma, Anaflor Residuo of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Anaflor to her friends, she is currently a junior student of the course. According to her, she is the typical type of student. The simple one, the one that attends the class, complies with the requirements and wants to graduate. When asked what her goals in life are, Anaflor happily answered that ever since she was a child, she wants to be a newscaster. Aside from that, she wants to have a great job, help her family and become a successful woman.

The biggest challenge she had overcome as a student is when she shifted from accountancy to mass communication. Accountancy was her mom’s choice for her, so she took it up. But when she was already there, she was not happy, that was the tie she realized what when you don’t like what you’re doing, you will never be happy even though you’ll have a good future on it. Anaflor almost lose her hope because of the long process of shifting but God still granted her wish and she is very happy for that. When she was finally in her new surrounding, she feel that she really belonged in it.

Being a PUPian is her contribution to her university. Even though P.U.P doesn’t have good facilities unlike other private schools, Anaflor is certain that being a P.U.P graduate, she’ll have a good future. Anaflor said that the youth should value what they have now- be it a little less or even if they have more. You’ll never know what you will have in the future. Value every learning you acquire wherever you go. It’s not only in school that you learn, go another mile. Each of us can make a difference.

Like Anaflor, the youth should not lose their hope. They must pursue their dream and sometimes need to sacrifice some things. Have the strength to face the problems that will come to you; this will make you a better person. Education is important and this will make a big difference in your life.
